After many years of wishful thinking and idle talk, a small group of old collegians (duly noted in our historical records) finally took the step of calling a meeting in late-2007 of all ex-band members who might be interested in starting an ‘Old Scotch’ pipe band. The subsequent turn-out was most encouraging, so an informal committee was formed to commence ‘putting the band back together’ (apologies to that famous film!). It took just over a year of discussions, impromptu playing sessions to maintain the enthusiasm, and research of organisational options and possibilities, to finally launch an incorporated entity with basic funding and a rough statement of purpose.
From a core group of regulars, the band is now growing -
including several non-alumni members (we just like them!).
A mix of 'young guns' and others dating back over more than
50 years, results in an interesting blend of contemporary
and traditional settings from a collectively broad musical
resource, mutual improvement, shared tips, and no-one taking
themselves too seriously. The rest, as they say, is history!
